Meet Amanda

Hi, I’m Amanda!

I live in Seattle with my husband and our giant, fluffy Bernedoodle Wally.  You could say that we’re the stereotypical Seattleites. We’ve lived in Seattle for 10+ years and remember fondly of the grunge and punk of the Emerald city, back when South Lake Union was filled with used car lots. We both work at large tech companies. We enjoy the outdoors, and our favorite place in the Pacific Northwest is the cold, rocky beach along the Oregon-Washington coast – where even on a hot, summer day, you still need a beanie and your cozy Patagonia fleece so you can brave dipping your toes in the cold, icy water. The brisk, salty wind is ripping through your hair. You’re dragging your feet through the cold, rocks and sludgy, wet sand to forage for clams, mussels, and oysters.

Prior to working in tech, I was on the agency side at a public relations firm where I sat on the digital arm as a senior channel planner, focused on integrated marketing strategies for consumer retail, tech, and food/beverage clients. I’ve always had a love for storytelling and knack for creative writing. And when I look back to my childhood when someone asked me “what I wanted to be” – I remember fondly that I always wanted to be a journalist… a writer… the person with words.. with lots to say.. all the time.

My love for cooking runs deep in my roots. My grandmother, mother, and six aunts are amazing home cooks, and I’ve been blessed to have had the opportunity to grow up helping them at the kitchen table. From folding egg rolls to wrapping dumplings, from sampling homemade chicken liver terrines to munching on salty sardines on toast — food has been a cornerstone of my childhood.

Whisk and Whim is my little space to share this passion with you, but more importantly, it’s a place for me to finally jot down and capture the recipes that have been passed down to me from my family.
